The artist
Lorenzo Quinn is an Abu Dhabi based contemporary artist whose works, inspired by classical masters such as Miguel Ángel, Bernini and Rodin, are considered to be modern references in figurative sculpture.
Born in 1966 in Rome, Lorenzo Quinn is the son of Mexican-American actor Anthony Quinn and his Venetian wife, Iolanda Addolori, which meant that his childhood and education were spent between the classical beauty of Italy and the cosmopolitanism of New York and Los Angeles.
Since Lorenzo earned the respect of the artistic society more than 30 years ago with the creation of the artwork “The Tree of Life” for the United Nations, his sculptures, which reference human anatomy, have been featured in numerous international exhibitions and can be found in private collections around the world.
In recent years, Lorenzo Quinn has managed to push his skills to the limit, and stand out for his ambitious sculptural projects in different parts of the world and very diverse cultures. These projects had a great media impact, not only for their artistic value, mature style and technique, but also for the universal message they are capable of conveying. The power that Quinn grants to the message of the artwork, as well as to its other symbols: the hands, for which the artist is immediately recognized throughout the planet, have allowed him to increasingly push the boundaries of his art.
Chosen by the artist for their attribute of creating, transmitting emotions, and being a vehicle of a universal language that can be understood by all, this emblem of Quinn attains maximum expression in the works Support and Building Bridges. These are two colossal-sized creations, presented at the 2017 and 2019 Venice Biennales respectively, that highlight Quinn’s ingenuity and ability to not only tackle technical challenges that require large work teams, but to “dream big.”
Quinn’s works express universal values such as love in all its forms, peace, harmony, and empathy or the “celebration of humanity”, values that are also joined by reflections on the relationship between nature and human beings.
Supportive and committed, Lorenzo Quinn is also known for his numerous public sculptures with environmental content and for his message calling for help in the face of the destructive actions of mankind on the environment, such as The Force of Nature, Gaia or, once again Support, always originating from the absolute respect and “universality” that characterize him.
Quinn’s sculptures demonstrate his ability to amaze and connect with the general public and people’s emotions by providing a positive and enriching aesthetic experience through powerful messages.
If “tomorrow’s world takes form in today’s art,” Lorenzo Quinn sincerely believes in the power of art to spread the great values that define us as human beings, and our ability to build a more positive future to bequeath to the next generations.
